چکیده

The possible stellar origin of those short-lived nuclei that were shown to be alive in the early solar system is briefly discussed. A possible revival of the model for a close-by AGB star polluting the protosolar nebula depends on the strongly debated problem of the initial amount of Fe, as inferred from recent measurements in early condensates.

Short-Lived Nuclei in the Early Solar System: A Low Mass Stellar Source?

We discuss possible stellar origins of short-lived radioactive nuclei with meanlife τ̄≤ 100Myr, which were shown to be alive in the Early Solar System (ESS). We first review current ideas on the production of nuclides having 10≤ τ̄≤ 100Myr, which presumably derive from the continuous interplay of galactic astration, nucleosynthesis from massive supernovae and free decay in the interstellar medium...

Intermediate-mass Asymptotic Giant Branch Stars and Sources of Al, Fe, Pd, and Hf in the Solar System

We explore the possibility that the short-lived radionuclides A 26 l, F 60 e, P 107 d, and H 182 f inferred to be present in the proto-solar cloud originated from 3–8M☉ asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. Models of AGB stars with initial mass above M 5 ☉ are prolific producers of A 26 l owing to hot bottom burning (HBB). In contrast, F 60 e, P 107 d, and H 182 f are produced by neutron capture...

Iron-60 Evidence for Early Injection and Efficient Mixing of Stellar Debris in the Protosolar Nebula

Among extinct radioactivities present in meteorites, Fe (t1/2 = 1.49 Myr) plays a key role as a high-resolution chronometer, a heat source in planetesimals, and a fingerprint of the astrophysical setting of solar system formation. A critical issue with Fe is that it could have been heterogeneously distributed in the protoplanetary disk, calling into question the efficiency of mixing in the sola...

Bayes’ Theorem and Early Solar Short-lived Radionuclides: the Case for an Unexceptional Origin for the Solar System

The presence of excesses of short-lived radionuclides in the early solar system evidenced in meteorites has been taken as testament to close encounters with exotic nucleosynthetic sources, including supernovae or AGB stars. An analysis of the likelihoods associated with different sources of these extinct nuclides in the early solar system indicates that, rather than being exotic, their abundanc...

Isotope Anomalies in the Fe-group Elements in Meteorites and Connections to Nucleosynthesis in AGB Stars

We study the effects of neutron captures in AGB stars on “Fe-group” elements, with an emphasis on Cr, Fe, and Ni. These elements show anomalies in Cr, Fe, and Ni in solar-system materials, which are commonly attributed to SNe. However, as large fractions of the interstellar medium (ISM) were reprocessed in AGB stars, these elements were reprocessed, too. We calculate the effects of such reproce...
